The Beechcraft Queen Air 80 is a twin-engine piston utility aircraft that bridged the gap between light twins and turbine-powered business aircraft during the 1960s and 1970s. Developed from the earlier Model 65 Queen Air, the 80-series introduced more powerful Lycoming IGSO-540 engines producing 380 horsepower each, giving it respectable performance for cargo, air ambulance, and small passenger operations in an era before turboprops dominated the regional market. The Queen Air 80 could carry up to nine passengers or substantial cargo loads, making it a workhorse for operators serving remote communities and short-haul routes where jet economics didn't pencil out. With a cruise speed around 200 knots and useful load exceeding 3,000 pounds, it offered genuine twin-engine reliability and cabin space that smaller Beech Barons couldn't match.
