Pilatus Pc-24
Twin Jet
The Pilatus PC-24 holds the distinction of being the world's first business jet certified for operation from unpaved runways, earning its marketing moniker as the 'Super Versatile Jet.' Swiss manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft unveiled the twin-engine light jet in 2013 and achieved certification in 2017, combining the cabin comfort and speed of a business jet with the rugged short-field performance traditionally associated with turboprops. The PC-24 can operate from grass, gravel, and dirt strips as short as 2,930 feet, a capability unmatched by any other jet in its class, while cruising at 440 knots and reaching altitudes up to 45,000 feet. Powered by two Williams FJ44-4A turbofans, the aircraft seats up to eleven passengers in typical executive configurations or can be rapidly reconfigured for cargo, medevac, or special mission roles thanks to its flat-floor cabin and large aft cargo door. The type has found favor with corporate operators, air ambulance services, and governments requiring access to remote or austere airfields without sacrificing jet performance. Its combination of 2,000-nautical-mile range, spacious stand-up cabin, and genuine rough-field capability represents a unique niche in business aviation. SkyMeter has tracked 22 flights across 5 airframes and 1 operators, covering routes.
Safety in context
The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter — go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
