The COMAC C919 represents China's ambitious entry into the global narrowbody airliner market, marking the country's first domestically designed and manufactured large commercial jet. Developed by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) and first flown in 2017, the C919 directly challenges the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 families in the 158-192 seat segment. The aircraft's designation reflects its design mission: "C" for China and COMAC, "9" symbolizing longevity in Chinese culture, and "19" indicating its approximate 190-seat capacity in typical configuration.
