Embraer 175 Short Wing

Twin Jet· 76 globally registered

The Embraer E175 is the largest and most successful member of the original E-Jet family, a stretched variant of the E170 that entered service in 2005. Designed to fill the 76-88 seat regional jet market, it became the dominant aircraft in its class across North America, particularly after scope clause changes allowed US regional carriers to operate larger jets under major airline brands. The E175 struck an ideal balance between capacity, range, and operating economics, offering mainline comfort in a regional package with 2-2 seating, full-height overhead bins, and a quiet cabin that passengers genuinely preferred over the cramped 50-seaters it replaced. Powered by twin General Electric CF34-8E engines, the E175 cruises at Mach 0.78 with a range of roughly 2,200 nautical miles, making it equally capable on short hops and longer transcons. Its wing design and fly-by-wire flight controls give it excellent short-field performance and dispatch reliability that operators prize. The type became so popular in the US regional market that it effectively defined the category, with carriers like SkyWest, Republic, Envoy, and Jazz operating large fleets on behalf of Delta, United, American, and Air Canada. While Embraer has since introduced the more efficient E175-E2, the original E175 remains in high demand, with production continuing alongside its successor. SkyMeter has tracked 868 flights across 39 airframes and 3 operators, with Jazz Aviation LP the largest observed operator.

Safety in context

The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter: go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
