Evektor Ev-97 Eurostar
Single Piston
The Evektor EV-97 EuroStar is a Czech-built light sport aircraft that has become one of Europe's most successful ultralight designs since its introduction in the late 1990s. Manufactured by Evektor-Aerotechnik in Kunovice, Czech Republic, the EuroStar was specifically engineered to meet both European ultralight regulations and the emerging US Light Sport Aircraft category, making it one of the first aircraft certified under FAA LSA rules in 2004. Its all-metal construction and side-by-side seating distinguish it from many fabric-covered competitors, offering better weather protection and a more conventional flying experience for pilots transitioning from heavier aircraft. Powered by a Rotax 912 series engine producing 80-100 horsepower, the EuroStar achieves cruise speeds around 100 knots while maintaining excellent fuel economy and docile handling characteristics. Its low stall speed of 37 knots in landing configuration and forgiving flight envelope make it popular for flight training across Europe, while the 1,320-pound maximum takeoff weight allows it to operate as a fully-loaded two-seater with reasonable fuel reserves. The type has found particular favor in Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom, where hundreds of examples serve flight schools, private owners, and touring pilots. SkyMeter has tracked 3 flights across 1 airframes and 1 operators, with activity spanning routes.
Safety in context
The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter — go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
