Evektor Sportstar

Single Piston

The Evektor SportStar is a Czech-built light sport aircraft that emerged in the late 1990s as one of Europe's most successful LSA designs. Manufactured by Evektor-Aerotechnik in Kunovice, Czech Republic, the SportStar family includes the EuroStar and newer SportStar variants, all sharing a distinctive low-wing configuration with side-by-side seating and a composite fuselage mated to metal wings. The aircraft was designed to meet both European ultralight regulations and the U.S. Light Sport Aircraft category introduced in 2004, making it one of the first factory-built LSA models certified under the new American rules. Powered by a Rotax 912 series engine producing 80-100 horsepower, the SportStar cruises at approximately 115 knots and offers a range of around 600 nautical miles, impressive for an aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of just 1,320 pounds. Its docile handling characteristics and relatively spacious cockpit have made it popular with flight schools across Europe and North America, while the type's efficient operating costs appeal to private owners seeking an economical touring platform. The SportStar's construction combines modern composite techniques with traditional aluminum components, resulting in a durable airframe that has proven reliable in both training and recreational roles over more than two decades of production. Safety in context

The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter — go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
