The Bombardier CRJ200 launched the regional jet revolution in the early 1990s, becoming the first purpose-built 50-seat jet to achieve widespread commercial success. Derived from Canadair's Challenger business jet, the CRJ100 entered service in 1992, followed by the stretched CRJ200 in 1996, and together they redefined short-haul aviation by offering jet speed and passenger comfort on routes previously served only by turboprops.
