About the Bombardier CRJ-1000

The Bombardier CRJ-1000 is the largest and final stretch of the venerable CRJ family, seating up to 104 passengers in a single-class layout, a significant leap from the original 50-seat CRJ100 that launched the regional jet revolution in 1992. Introduced in 2010 as the CRJ-1000 NextGen, it was Bombardier's answer to the Embraer E-190 and represented the practical limit of how far the CRJ fuselage could be stretched while retaining commonality with earlier variants. Powered by twin General Electric CF34-8C5 turbofans, the aircraft cruises at Mach 0.82 and offers a range of approximately 1,620 nautical miles, making it well-suited for regional trunk routes across Europe and North America.

The type features advanced avionics including a Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4 flight deck with six large LCD displays, full RVSM capability, and optional head-up displays for enhanced all-weather operations. Despite its capabilities, the CRJ-1000 faced stiff competition from the more spacious Embraer E-Jet family and newer designs like the Airbus A220, leading Bombardier to sell the entire CRJ program to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in 2020. Production ended in 2021 after just 66 aircraft were delivered, making it one of the rarer members of the CRJ family.

The type remains in active service primarily with European regional carriers, where its fuel efficiency and operational flexibility continue to prove valuable on medium-density routes. SkyMeter has tracked flights across airframes and operators over routes, with the largest observed operator.
