About the Dassault Aviation Falcon 10
The Dassault Falcon 10, originally marketed as the Mystère 10, was Dassault's entry into the light business jet market when it first flew in 1970. Designed as a scaled-down derivative of the successful Mystère 20 (Falcon 20), the Falcon 10 seated four to seven passengers and was powered by twin Garrett TFE731 turbofans mounted on the aft fuselage — the same engines that would go on to power dozens of business jet designs. It was among the first purpose-built light jets to offer transcontinental range with true jet performance, cruising at Mach 0.84 and reaching altitudes above 45,000 feet.
Though only 226 were built between 1973 and 1989, the Falcon 10 established Dassault's reputation in the smaller end of the business aviation market and paved the way for later successes like the Falcon 50 and Falcon 900. Its clean supercritical wing and efficient engines gave it better fuel economy than many contemporaries, and its handling characteristics earned praise from pilots accustomed to larger Falcon types. The design also served as a testbed for avionics and systems later incorporated into military variants.
Today the type remains in service primarily with private operators and smaller charter companies, valued for its reliability and relatively low operating costs. SkyMeter has tracked flights across airframes and operators, with routes observed.
