About the Supermarine Spitfire

The Supermarine Spitfire is the iconic British single-seat fighter that became synonymous with the Royal Air Force's defence of Britain during the Second World War. Designed by R.J. Mitchell and first flown in 1936, the Spitfire combined an elliptical wing planform with the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine to create one of the most manoeuvrable and aesthetically graceful fighters of its era.
