About the Socata TB-10 Tobago

The Socata TB-10 Tobago is a four-seat, single-engine touring aircraft built by the French manufacturer Socata (Société de Construction d'Avions de Tourisme et d'Affaires), now part of Daher. First flown in 1977, the TB-10 was designed as an all-metal, low-wing tourer emphasizing comfort, visibility, and docile handling for private pilots and flight schools. Its spacious cabin, wide doors, and excellent forward visibility made it a popular choice in Europe and North America throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The Tobago sits in the middle of Socata's TB-series family, sharing its airframe with the retractable-gear TB-20 Trinidad and the more powerful TB-21 Trinidad TC.

Powered by a Lycoming O-360 engine producing 180 horsepower, the TB-10 cruises at around 122 knots and offers a range of approximately 650 nautical miles with standard fuel. Its benign stall characteristics and forgiving flight envelope (never-exceed speed of 178 knots, normal operations up to 151 knots) make it well-suited for training and cross-country touring. The aircraft's relatively low stall speeds (54 knots landing configuration, 59 knots clean) and wide speed range provide a comfortable margin for student pilots while still delivering respectable cruise performance for personal travel.

Though production of the TB-10 ended in the mid-1990s as Socata shifted focus to composite designs like the TB-20 and later the TBM turboprop series, the Tobago remains a fixture at flight schools and flying clubs, prized for its solid construction and straightforward systems. SkyMeter has tracked flights across airframes and operators, with the largest observed operator.
