About the Let Kunovice L-410 Turbolet

The Let L-410 Turbolet is a Czech twin-turboprop commuter aircraft that has become one of the most successful Eastern European designs in aviation history, with over 1,200 built since 1969. Manufactured by Let Kunovice in the Czech Republic, the L-410 was originally developed to serve remote communities across the Soviet Union and has proven remarkably adaptable to rugged operations worldwide. Its high-wing configuration, fixed tricycle landing gear, and unpressurized cabin make it ideal for short-haul routes into unpaved or marginal airstrips where larger aircraft cannot operate.

The type seats 19 passengers in typical configuration and can operate from runways as short as 1,400 feet, making it a workhorse for bush operations, skydiving, cargo, and regional passenger service across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprops producing 750 shaft horsepower each, the L-410 cruises at around 230 knots with a range of approximately 800 nautical miles. While not fast or pressurized like modern regional jets, the Turbolet's ruggedness, simplicity, and ability to operate from austere environments have kept it in continuous production for over five decades.

The latest UVP-E20 variant features glass cockpit avionics and improved engines, and the type remains in active production today. Its operating envelope includes a service ceiling of 26,000 feet and a maximum cruise speed of 230 knots, though most operators fly it much lower on short sectors. SkyMeter has tracked flights across airframes and operators, covering routes.
