About the Airbus A300 B4-600
The Airbus A300-600F was the world's first twin-engine widebody freighter, derived from the pioneering A300 that launched Airbus into the commercial aviation market in 1974. The freighter variant entered service in 1994 and became the backbone of express cargo operations, offering main-deck loading capability with a payload of up to 54 tonnes and a range of 3,200 nautical miles—ideal for overnight package networks. Its twin-engine efficiency revolutionized air freight economics compared to older trijet and quadjet cargo aircraft, while the widebody cross-section accommodated standard freight containers and pallets with room to spare.
UPS became the largest operator of the type, eventually flying more than 50 A300-600Fs on its global network, valuing the aircraft's reliability, operating cost, and ability to serve medium-haul routes with heavy loads. The A300F's General Electric CF6-80C2 engines deliver 61,500 pounds of thrust each, enabling operations into airports with shorter runways than competing widebody freighters. Though Airbus ended A300 production in 2007 after 33 years, the freighter variant remains in widespread service with cargo carriers who appreciate its proven durability and lower acquisition cost compared to newer types.
The A300-600F can cruise at Mach 0.78 and reach a service ceiling of 40,000 feet, with approach speeds around 138 knots depending on weight—slower than narrowbody freighters but offering far greater volume. SkyMeter has tracked flights across airframes and operators, with the largest observed operator.
