Let Kunovice L-200 Morava
Twin Piston
The Let L-200 Morava is a Czech twin-engine light aircraft that emerged from the Moravian aviation works at Kunovice in the late 1950s, representing one of Eastern Europe's most successful general aviation designs of the Cold War era. First flown in 1957, the Morava was designed as a versatile four-to-five-seat tourer and light business aircraft, powered by a pair of 210-horsepower Continental or Walter Minor piston engines driving constant-speed propellers. Its all-metal construction, retractable tricycle landing gear, and respectable 162-knot cruise speed made it competitive with Western contemporaries like the Piper Apache, though it remained largely confined to Eastern Bloc operators and aero clubs throughout its production run. Production continued until 1967, with approximately 367 aircraft built across several variants including the original L-200A, the improved L-200D with more powerful engines, and specialized versions for aerial survey and photography work. The Morava found service with Czechoslovak state aviation organizations, flying clubs, and a handful of export customers in countries aligned with the Soviet sphere. Its docile handling characteristics and twin-engine safety made it popular for pilot training and light charter work, though Western sanctions and parts availability limited its appeal beyond the Iron Curtain. A small number remain airworthy today, prized by vintage aircraft enthusiasts for their solid construction and distinctive Eastern European pedigree. Safety in context
The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter: go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
