Taylorcraft Bc-12d
Single Piston
The Taylorcraft BC-12D is a classic American light aircraft that emerged from the post-World War II boom in general aviation, when thousands of returning pilots sought affordable flying machines. Built by the Taylorcraft Aviation Company in Alliance, Ohio, the BC-12D ("Deluxe") became one of the most popular variants of the Taylorcraft line during the late 1940s, prized for its docile handling, fabric-covered tube-and-rag construction, and economical 65-horsepower Continental engine. With side-by-side seating and tandem control sticks, the BC-12D offered a traditional taildragger experience that made it a favourite among flight schools and private owners who valued simplicity over speed. The type's operating envelope reflects its role as a gentle trainer and weekend tourer: a never-exceed speed of 128 knots, cruise around 90 knots, and a stall speed as low as 38 knots with full flaps. Maximum takeoff weight is just 1,500 pounds, and the aircraft's light wing loading gives it short-field capability that allowed operation from grass strips and farm fields across rural America. Though production ended in the early 1950s, hundreds of Taylorcraft aircraft remain active on civil registers worldwide, maintained by enthusiasts who appreciate their straightforward systems and forgiving flight characteristics. Safety in context
The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter — go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
