About the Boeing 767-200

The Boeing 767-200 was the original variant of Boeing's first medium-widebody twin, launched in 1978 as a fuel-efficient replacement for aging trijets on transcontinental and transatlantic routes. It entered service with United Airlines in 1982 and became the first widebody certified for ETOPS operations in 1985, revolutionizing twin-engine overwater flying and proving that twins could reliably operate routes previously reserved for three- and four-engine aircraft. The 767-200 seated 181 to 224 passengers in typical configurations and offered a 3,900-nautical-mile range, making it ideal for medium-haul international service.

While passenger operations have largely transitioned to newer types, the 767-200 has found a robust second life as a freighter. Many airframes have been converted to 767-200F cargo configuration, particularly popular with express freight operators and charter carriers. The type's combination of widebody capacity, twin-engine efficiency, and relatively modest size makes it well-suited for overnight package networks and secondary cargo routes where larger freighters would be uneconomical. Military variants include the KC-767 tanker and E-767 AWACS platform operated by Japan and Italy.

The 767-200's flight envelope includes a maximum operating speed of 360 knots IAS or Mach 0.86, with a service ceiling of 43,000 feet. Its maximum takeoff weight of 387,000 pounds positions it in the ICAO Heavy wake turbulence category. Approach speeds typically run around 138 knots depending on weight and configuration, with stall speeds of 112 knots in landing configuration and 152 knots clean.

SkyMeter has tracked flights across airframes and operators spanning routes, with the largest observed operator.
