About the Pilatus PC-24
The Pilatus PC-24 is the world's first business jet designed from the outset for unpaved runway operations, earning it the marketing moniker "Super Versatile Jet." Swiss manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft unveiled the type in 2013 and delivered the first production aircraft in 2018, targeting operators who need jet speed and comfort but must access remote airstrips with gravel, grass, or dirt surfaces. Its rugged landing gear, low-pressure tires, and reversible thrust allow it to operate from runways as short as 2,930 feet—a capability unmatched by conventional light jets in its class. The PC-24 combines a spacious flat-floor cabin (configurable for six to eleven passengers, or rapid medevac and cargo conversions) with a 2,000-nautical-mile range and a cruise speed around 440 knots.
Powered by two Williams FJ44-4A turbofans, the aircraft climbs directly to FL450 and can reach its maximum operating speed of Mach 0.70 or 290 knots IAS, making it faster than most turboprops while retaining short-field performance that rivals them. Its large cargo door (four feet wide) and flat cabin floor enable mission flexibility rare among business jets—operators have used it for air ambulance work, cargo shuttles to island communities, and executive transport to mining sites. The type has found particular favor in Europe, Africa, and Australia, where infrastructure often demands more than a typical tarmac-only jet can deliver.
