About the Learjet 70

The Learjet 70 represents Bombardier's effort to modernize the iconic Learjet brand for the 21st century, entering service in 2013 as the smaller sibling in the 70/75 family. Built in Wichita, Kansas, the LJ70 replaced the aging Learjet 40/45 series with a clean-sheet redesign featuring Garmin G5000 avionics, canted winglets, and Honeywell TFE731-40BR engines that deliver a maximum cruise speed of 465 knots and a range of 2,060 nautical miles. The aircraft seats up to nine passengers in a cabin that, while still compact by modern standards, offers improved headroom and baggage capacity compared to its predecessors.

Despite its advanced systems and respectable performance envelope (including a service ceiling of 51,000 feet and the ability to operate from runways as short as 4,440 feet), the Learjet 70 struggled commercially in an increasingly competitive light-jet market dominated by Embraer's Phenom 300 and Cessna's Citation family. Bombardier ultimately discontinued the entire Learjet line in February 2021, making the 70 one of the final chapters in a storied 58-year legacy that began with Bill Lear's revolutionary Model 23 in 1963. Production totaled fewer than 30 aircraft, rendering the type a rare sight on ramps worldwide.
