About the Boeing AH-64 Apache

The Boeing AH-64 Apache is the world's most advanced and widely deployed attack helicopter, serving as the primary rotary-wing strike platform for the United States Army and more than a dozen allied nations. First entering service in 1986, the Apache was purpose-built for the anti-armor role during the Cold War but has evolved into a multi-mission weapon system capable of precision strikes, armed reconnaissance, and close air support in all weather conditions, day or night. The distinctive tandem cockpit, stub wings mounting Hellfire missiles and rocket pods, and the chin-mounted 30mm M230 chain gun make it instantly recognizable on any battlefield.

The AH-64D Longbow variant introduced the mast-mounted millimeter-wave fire control radar that allows the helicopter to detect and engage targets while remaining behind cover, a revolutionary capability that redefined attack helicopter tactics. The latest AH-64E Guardian model features upgraded engines, composite rotor blades, improved avionics, and network-centric warfare capabilities that allow it to control unmanned aerial systems and share targeting data across the battlespace. With a never-exceed speed of 197 knots and a combat radius exceeding 150 nautical miles, the Apache can reach forward areas quickly and loiter on station to provide persistent fire support.

Its twin General Electric T700 turboshaft engines deliver 1,800 shaft horsepower each, enabling the 23,000-pound aircraft to operate effectively in high-altitude environments from Afghanistan to the Korean Peninsula. The Apache has seen combat in every major U.S. military operation since the Gulf War, where it famously fired the first shots of Desert Storm by destroying Iraqi early warning radar sites.
