Safety incidents

12612 events · last 7 days

SkyMeter detected 12,612 flight safety events across the global tracked fleet in the last 7 days, with Seattle Tacoma International Airport (KSEA) recording the most (453). The breakdown: 3,921 returns to field, 2,982 unstable approaches, 481 go-arounds, 135 speed exceedances, 109 stall warnings, and 49 rejected takeoffs. SkyMeter classifies these events from raw ADS-B trace data using deterministic detectors: go-around from altitude / vertical-speed reversals after final approach, unstable approach from gate-by-gate stability scoring against per-runway statistical envelopes, and stall / overspeed from broadcast IAS / Mach against per-type speed envelopes. Counts reflect detected events, not adjudicated incidents.

Detection is complicated. ADS-B is imperfect. Gaps, ghost signals, coverage dead zones, missing airport metadata, training patterns, parallel-runway activity, and unfamiliar aircraft types all create false positives. These are signals worth reviewing, not official incident reports.
