Airbus A319 Neo

Twin Jet

The Airbus A320neo (new engine option) represents the most significant upgrade to the world's best-selling single-aisle jet family since its 1988 debut. Launched in 2010 and entering service in 2016, the A320neo family delivers 15-20% fuel savings and 50% noise reduction compared to the original A320ceo through two new engine choices: the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G geared turbofan and the CFM International LEAP-1A, plus large wingtip sharklets and aerodynamic refinements. The A320neo quickly became the fastest-selling commercial aircraft in history, accumulating over 7,000 orders within five years of launch. With a maximum takeoff weight of 97 metric tons and a range of 3,400 nautical miles, the neo stretches the A320's mission envelope while maintaining full cockpit commonality with earlier ceo variants, allowing airlines to mix fleets easily. The type competes directly with Boeing's 737 MAX family in the 150-180 seat narrowbody market, where fuel efficiency and operating economics are paramount. Chinese carriers have been particularly aggressive adopters, with Air China, China Southern, and China Eastern collectively operating hundreds of A320neo family aircraft on domestic trunk routes where the type's combination of capacity, range, and per-seat costs proves ideal for high-frequency service between major cities. SkyMeter has tracked 168 flights across 38 airframes and 1 operators, covering distinct routes.

Safety in context

The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter: go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
